The President of the Independent Croatian Farmers (NHS), Mato Mlinarić, today at 10 a.m. submitted a criminal complaint to the County State Attorney’s Office in Zagreb against wheat buyers.
Mlinarić stated before the complaint that the buyers had illegally colluded to set the price of wheat, as they had agreed that it would be 1.05 kuna per kilogram.
– By violating the competition law and colluding, the buyers intended to gain unlawful benefit of 200 million kuna and thereby harm our members and all producers – said Mlinarić.
He stated that over 90 percent of producers have contracts with buyers that stipulate that the price will be formed according to market movements, which means according to the Budapest stock exchange, which currently stands at 1.25 kuna. Considering that, according to NHS estimates, the real price in Croatia should be 1.40 kuna to cover production costs, the illegal collusion of buyers is unacceptable from an economic standpoint, Mlinarić believes.
– We expect the State Attorney’s Office to investigate our claims – concluded Mlinarić and went to file the complaint.
