Through amendments to the Law on the Restriction of the Use of Tobacco Products, the Government proposes the introduction of a complete ban on the display, or visibility, of tobacco products at points of sale, as well as a complete ban on the sale of tobacco products from vending machines.
The aim is to reduce the incidence of smoking, specifically to decrease the attractiveness of cigarettes to young people, to prevent circumvention of the ban on the sale of tobacco products to minors, and to restrict advertising by the tobacco industry, explains Health Minister Rajko Ostojić.
It should be noted that the legal amendments, which the Government submitted to the Parliament two weeks ago, foresee an obligation for manufacturers to inventory all stocks of cigarettes in production facilities, warehouses, and points of sale whenever there is a change in cigarette prices, whether due to their own pricing policy or excise duties.
