The LNG project in Omišalj is increasingly taking on political contours. At least, that is how it seems. Plinacro has initiated the sale of its 50% stake in the company LNG Croatia and, according to the Ministry of Economy, HEP, which holds the remaining 50%, is taking over its share.
Plinacro is exiting the company because, as explained by HERA, in accordance with Croatian regulations and EU Directives, the ownership stake in LNG Croatia, which could engage in supply, poses a potential problem for its certification as an operator. HEP, lacking sufficient knowledge about LNG, thus becomes the 100% owner of the company, which, as we learn from multiple sources, will be led by the dismissed CEO of Plinacro, Mladen Antunović. Contradictorily, HEP has rejected the restructuring plan of Dioki, the owner of the land designated for the construction of the terminal, which is further evidence of the lack of ideas and absence of strategic guidelines for a project dictated by politics.
However, such reshuffling works in favor of Plinacro. It can now focus on the realization of its projects – the IAP gas pipeline, which has gained momentum from the failure of Nabucco, which will replace the TAP pipeline.
