The First Day of Croatia in the European Union Clearly Did Not Bring Changes to the Market

Croatia’s entry into the European Union did not prompt investors on the Zagreb Stock Exchange to react significantly, so the Crobex indices are stagnating today, while trading volume is low, as is customary for the summer months.

The Crobex index was down 0.04 percent around noon, at 1,804 points, while Crobex10 weakened by 0.2 percent, to 1,017 points.

Regular trading volume in shares amounted to 2.2 million kuna by noon, which is about a million less than at this time on Friday.

“The first day of Croatia in the European Union clearly did not bring changes to the market, trading is low today, truly summer-like, and the Crobex indices are stagnating. There are no news that could significantly move the market in either direction,” says Tomislav Kesić, a broker at Zagrebačka banka.

The highest trading volume, around 470 thousand kuna, was achieved by shares of Valamar Adria Holding by noon, with their price weakening by 0.17 percent, to 145.8 kuna.

Shares of HT achieved a trading volume of around 420 thousand kuna. Their price weakened by 0.3 percent, to 177.05 kuna. HT has notified the Competition Protection Agency of its intention to concentrate with Optima Telekom, based on a proposal for financial and operational restructuring of Optima as part of the pre-bankruptcy settlement process.

The price of Optima Telekom shares weakened by 1.2 percent today, to 8.26 kuna, with a low trading volume of only about 46 thousand kuna.

Shares of Dioki achieved a trading volume of around 355 thousand kuna by noon, with their price jumping more than 12 percent, to 24.85 kuna.

The company reported today that it submitted a revised financial and operational restructuring plan in the pre-bankruptcy settlement process, after the previous one was rejected, and creditors of the company are expected to vote on the new plan on July 11.

No incentives are coming from European exchanges either, where trading is also cautious today. Around noon, the Frankfurt DAX, Paris CAC, and London FTSE indices were up between 0.1 and 0.4 percent.
