‘The European Union is not only the work of European leaders but also of European citizens,’ stated the President of the Croatian Parliament, Josip Leko, while speaking during the ceremony of raising the Croatian flag in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
The Croatian flag waved to the sounds of ‘Lijepa Naša’ and the ‘Ode to Joy,’ which was sung in Croatian by the choir of the Croatian Navy, Sveti Juraj. The ceremony took place before the start of this month’s plenary session, and from today, 12 Croatian representatives will be able to participate fully in the work of the Parliament.
Key topics of the plenary session will include the new EU budget (MFF, multi-annual financial framework), internet privacy, specifically the scandal involving American surveillance, and Hungary’s adherence to European values.
