A two-day summit of leaders from European Union member states begins in Brussels, with the main topics of discussion being the issue of youth unemployment, which exceeds 50 percent in countries like Spain and Greece.
Discussions will also cover the banking union, and Prime Minister Zoran Milanović will participate for the last time as an observer, as he will be a full participant at the very next meeting.
Milanović will open the exhibition Welcome Croatia in front of the European Parliament before the summit begins and will participate in a meeting of heads of state, heads of government, and deputy heads of government from the Party of European Socialists (PES).
This will also be an opportunity for him to meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who will not be coming to Zagreb for the EU accession ceremony. The German government has denied that this is related to the case of Josip Perković.
It is true that the federal government will be represented at the ceremony in Zagreb on Sunday by the state minister from the Foreign Ministry, Mr. Link. Unfortunately, the federal chancellor is unable to travel to Zagreb. It is incorrect to associate this with the proposed legislation, said Steffen Seibert, spokesperson for the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Meanwhile, the Federal Criminal Police Office has renewed the warrant for Perković. The reward for information that could lead to his arrest or extradition has been increased from 5,000 to 12,000 euros.
