Mirela Holy leaves SDP

Mirela Holy has left the SDP after the Nature Protection Act was passed today, to which she had a number of objections and claimed that she would leave the party.

She left the party also because the Parliament will reject her amendments to the Nature Act, specifically the establishment of a national park agency. Holy has already informed the party of her decision. Since Minister Zmajlović did not accept that amendment, Holy withdrew it so that it does not have to be voted on in Parliament, as she does not want to put her SDP colleagues in an awkward position. Minister Mihael Zmajlović confirmed that Holy informed them via email that she is leaving the SDP.

– I am sorry that Mirela made such a decision. Her stubbornness prevailed, not common sense, claims Zmajlović, who reiterated that her statements about the non-establishment of the park agency being a sign that the Plan 21 has been betrayed are manipulations. She confirmed that she sent a notice of her departure from the party to Zoran Milanović.

– In the email, I explained to him that I am leaving the party because we do not respect the policies on which we won the elections, in this specific case, the environmental protection policy, said Holy, who claims that Milanović told her he is sorry that she is leaving the SDP.

She announced that as an independent representative, she will continue to support proposals coming from the Government that are in line with Plan 21. She revealed that she decided to definitively leave the SDP after the Minister of Environmental Protection was not willing to agree to the compromise she offered at yesterday’s working lunch, which was to incorporate the obligation to establish a national park agency by 2015 into the Law.
