The Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina must sign the agreement on border crossings and cross-border traffic with Croatia by the end of the month, and if they do not, citizens of BiH will not be allowed to enter the Republic of Croatia.
The European Commission has warned that closing the border between BiH and Croatia would have catastrophic consequences for people, as well as for the economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The biggest problem would be for Neum, which would become completely isolated at that moment.
Residents of BiH who hold Croatian passports, and most residents of Neum do have them, could enter the territory of the Republic of Croatia.
At yesterday’s session, Croatian and Bosniak representatives in the presidency voted for the signing of these two agreements (on border crossings and cross-border traffic with Croatia), while the Serbian representative, Nebojša Radmanović, was against.
As he stated, the contentious issue is that ‘the agreements were initialed by an illegal commission before the decision of the Council of Ministers of BiH, which the presidency pointed out about 15 days ago.’
BiH must sign these agreements by July 1, which is the date of Croatia’s entry into the European Union.
