The selection process for the head of the European Commission Representation in Croatia has been completed. Before signing the employment contract, some formalities still need to be completed, and then the Commission will announce who will hold this position, it was stated to Hina in Brussels.
The appointment process for the head of the Representation in Croatia is nearing completion. The selection has already been made, but the legal-administrative procedures, such as document verification or medical examination, have not yet been completed, which must be done before signing the employment contract, said Mina Andreeva, spokesperson for the Commission’s Vice-President Vivianne Reding. A healthy personnel policy and respect for personal integrity, as well as data protection, require that the name of the new employee be announced only after both parties have signed the contract. Therefore, the name will be announced as soon as all procedures are successfully completed, she said.
It has been reported in the Croatian press that former Croatian ambassador to the EU and current ambassador to Portugal, Branko Baričević, has been appointed as the head of the European Commission Representation in Zagreb.
With Croatia’s accession to the European Union, the Delegation of the European Commission in Zagreb is being abolished, as it is a diplomatic representation that represents the Commission in third countries. In member states, the European Commission Representation operates, whose role is to inform institutions, media, various interest groups, and citizens about the actions, decisions, and positions of the Commission. The head of the representation acts as the spokesperson for the Commission in the member state.
