Wedding of the Year – Funeral Movies Are Much Funnier

Bridesmaids on the run, grooms who are late, and brides who shed tears, their shocked parents drunk under the table, best men who forget the ring, cakes that explode due to careless handling, bouquets and garters falling into the wedding soup, ineffective priests…

These are all moments that make a wedding memorable, and producers believe they are excellent material for comedy. The question is why such romantic works are never funny, and it is equally incredible how many of these formulaic productions exist. ‘Wedding of the Year’ shows that even a star-studded cast, including four Oscar winners, cannot save the day. They are there to attract the audience with their names, while their acting talent and experience have been left for better days and better films. Justin Zacham presents us with a happily divorced couple, their two biological children, and an adopted son whose mother comes to his wedding, but everyone must pretend that the family lives according to traditional values that imply sharing good and bad until death do them part. It’s a shame it didn’t come because funeral movies are generally much funnier.
