After an exhaustive three-hour ‘grilling’ of Neven Mimica, the impression is that the Committee’s confirmation is not certain, given that several representatives have already expressed reservations and disbelief regarding the potential commissioner’s answers, which they consider very vague and insufficiently concrete.
Constance Le Grip from the EPP warned towards the end of the hearing that her political group is currently skeptical about Mimica’s suitability for the position of commissioner. In his closing address, Mimica emphasized his desire to collaborate with all stakeholders concerned with consumer protection, as well as for better informing consumers and the industry itself.
Commenting on his impressions of the hearing, he stated that he felt a shared desire to promote consumer protection issues to the forefront, but he did not unequivocally express his expectations from the Committee’s vote.
