Croatian candidate for the European Commission Commissioner Neven Mimica has been summoned for questioning before the relevant committees of the European Parliament.
They will subsequently provide their assessments of the candidate’s qualifications for membership in the college and the commissioner for the portfolio he is to take over.
The Croatian government nominated Mimica for commissioner on April 25, and on the same day, European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso accepted this nomination and assigned Mimica the portfolio of consumer protection. Mimica has been preparing for a three-hour hot interview before the members of the parliamentary committee. The unfortunate experience of his namesake Neven Mates shows that Brussels does not intend to overlook Croatian candidates.
