Problems with the non-issuance of excise stamps for cigarettes are causing business damage to TDR, which has had to reduce its production and, in this case, shares the fate of all market participants and is not in any privileged position, the only Croatian cigarette factory announced today.
On Friday, the companies BAT Croatia, Imperial Tobacco Zagreb (IT), JT International Zagreb, and Philip Morris Zagreb (PMZ) warned about the problem of non-issuance of excise stamps for imported cigarettes in a joint statement, stating that the Ministry of Finance “continues to refuse to issue excise stamps for imported cigarettes, thereby preventing the supply of cigarettes in the Croatian market.”
These companies also claim that the refusal to issue excise stamps is contrary to the law and jeopardizes the supply chain, causing a loss of revenue from tobacco excise duties to the state budget.
Responding to media speculation that “the new situation most benefits Rovinj’s TDR, which produces its cigarettes in Croatia and therefore does not need import stamps,” TDR today dismisses such speculation as unfounded and malicious.
– All tobacco products in Croatia are taxed, regardless of whether they are domestic products or imported products, and all must have excise stamps to be placed on the market. The new situation and problems with the non-issuance of excise stamps are causing business damage to TDR, and we have had to reduce our production because of this.
