Three mobile network operators in Croatia, Hrvatski Telekom (HT), Vipnet, and Tele2 Hrvatska, are ready for the implementation of the European III roaming regulation starting from July 1 of this year, under which foreign visitors from EU countries coming to Croatia, as well as Croatian users, will pay lower prices for mobile calls, SMS, and data transmission within the EU.
The application of this roaming regulation (roaming in other mobile networks), which has been in effect in the EU since July 1 of last year and is the third in a series of regulations since 2007 aimed at addressing the issue of excessively high roaming prices in EU countries, is regulated in Croatia by amendments to the Electronic Communications Act, which was submitted to parliamentary procedure last week.
These amendments are also related to the implementation of the Roaming Regulation in national legislation from the date of Croatia’s accession to the EU, whereby the price of roaming is significantly reduced compared to the current rates, with the first phase of this reduction starting on July 1 of this year, and, if there are no changes in EU regulations, the second phase would begin on July 1, 2014.
