In his first interview for ‘Slobodna Dalmacija’ as the directly elected mayor, Ivo Baldasar reflected on the low blows during the campaign, the state of the city of Split, and announced his first concrete steps as the head of the city, such as participating in the upcoming gay parade and reducing the number of employees in the city administration.
– A victory is a victory. As far as we are concerned, everything is clear, and I congratulate my opponents on their persistent fight and invite them to set ideology aside. We must resolve the 20,000 unemployed as soon as possible; we must help our fellow citizens! I apologize to all political opponents, and I would like them to do the same. I have arranged with Mr. Ivanišević to have coffee on the Riva and start addressing the problems. This was a political match, but it is over. We have not divided into two camps; their children are just as unemployed as ours. Let them know that we have won, but that they have not lost – said the new mayor of Split to Slobodna.
He stated that his first step will be a ‘clean start’ and that it is no secret that he will reorganize the city administration and reduce the number of employees in Banovina. – We will do everything in accordance with the law, and there will be no dramatic events – Baldasar stated, who said he would come to work on Saturdays and Sundays if necessary.
However, what will be most interesting is his goal to build a Center for the LGBT community by the end of his term, which he intends to actively support by attending parades in the streets of Split.
