Nine Mayors Retain Their Positions

The current mayors of Požega, Šibenik, and Sisak, who competed for a new term, lost in the second round of local elections, while nine incumbent mayors will continue to hold their positions.

The mayor of Požega will be Vedran Neferović (HDZ coalition) who defeated the incumbent mayor Zdravko Ronko (SDP coalition). Neferović received 49 percent of the votes, while Ronko received 48.65 percent, with 2.35 percent of the votes being invalid. Neferović won by 46 votes.

The mayor of Šibenik will be Željko Burić (HDZ coalition) who received 49.84 percent of the voters’ votes. The incumbent mayor Ante Županović (SDP coalition) received 47.89 percent of the votes. Invalid and uncast ballots accounted for 2.27 percent. Burić won 406 votes more than Županović.

Sisak will have a female mayor – Kristina Ikić Baniček (SDP coalition) who won 51.12 percent of the votes, defeating the incumbent mayor Dinko Pintarić (HDZ coalition) who received 46.1 percent.

In Varaždin, the mayor will continue to be Goran Habuš (HNS-SDP-HSLS-HSU) who received 51.15 percent of the votes. His opponent, the candidate from a group of voters, Marijan Cingula, received 45.5 percent of the votes.

The mayor of Karlovac will continue to be Damir Jelić, a candidate from the coalition led by HDZ, with 56.9 percent of the votes, while Josip Benčić, a candidate from the coalition led by SDP, received 40.23 percent.

The mayor of Dubrovnik remains Andro Vlahušić (HNS-HSS-SHUS) who received 59.8 percent of the votes, while his opponent Teo Andrić (HDZ-HSP AS-HSLS) received 37.28 percent of the votes.

The mayor of Bjelovar will continue to be Antun Korušec (ABB-HDSS-HNS-HSU) with 58.02 percent of the votes. His opponent Marijan Coner (HDZ coalition) received 39.47 percent.

In Koprivnica, the mayor will continue to be Vesna Želježnjak (SDP coalition) who received support from 60.95 percent of voters, while Ernest Forjan (HDZ coalition) received 36.19 percent.

The mayor of Vukovar remains Željko Sabo (SDP coalition) who received 53.9 percent of the votes, while Ivan Penava (HDZ coalition) received 45.22 percent.

In Slavonski Brod, the mayor remains Mirko Duspara (candidate from a group of voters) who received 53.26 percent, while his opponent Dragan Jelić (HDZ coalition) received 44.82 percent.

The mayor of Pazin remains Renato Krulčić (IDS-HNS-HSU). He received support from 55.31 percent of voters, while Ivan Bubić (HDZ) received 41.42 percent of voters.

The mayor of Pula remains Boris Miletić (IDS, HNS, Greens) who received 59.5 percent of the votes, while his opponent, SDP member of parliament Peđa Grbin (SDP coalition) received 37.51 percent of the votes.

In Krapina, Zoran Gregurović (HDZ coalition) won with 50.28 percent, while Željko Pavić (SDP coalition) received 48.11 percent.

The mayor of Gospić will be Petar Krmpotić (HDZ coalition) who received 50.3 percent of the votes, while the candidate from a group of voters Karlo Starčević received 48.53 percent.

The new mayor of Zadar will be Božidar Kalmeta (HDZ coalition). After counting 94.2 percent of the polling stations, Kalmeta has an unreachable 57.08 percent, while the candidate from the SDP coalition Ivo Bilić received 40.31 percent of the votes.

In the first round, mayors of Velika Gorica and Virovitica were elected, where HDZ candidates Dražen Barišić and Ivica Kirin won, as well as in Čakovec, where the candidate from the left coalition, SDP member Stjepan Kovač, received the most votes.
