Brodosplit workers were handed termination notices yesterday due to restructuring, which is why the CEO Tomislav Debeljak appeared on Dnevnik 3 last night.
For more than 3000 Brodosplit workers, severance payments will be made at 4,000 kuna per year of service for the first 20 years and 1,500 kuna per year of service after 20 years at Brodosplit. Workers believe this is the end of Brodosplit and the saddest day of their lives.
– These are all disinformation, the hiring of a new shipyard is starting, we have saved the shipyard, we will employ up to 2500 people, and by 2014 the shipyard will have more employees than today. Definitely, this is not the saddest day, I would like you to conduct an anonymous survey and see how many people consider this a new beginning for the shipyard – said Debeljak.
When asked where the workers will be employed, in Brodosplit or in the subsidiary companies of the parliamentary DIV, Debeljak said they will be employed in Brodosplit. He also commented on the celebration in March, when the media was flooded with images of roasted lambs, stating that around seventy thousand kuna was spent, and that it was all of a humanitarian nature.
Regarding those who will not return, he said that the number of employees in administration is ten times higher than in shipyards in Europe and that they will try to help them through the Employment Service and that they received severance pay greater than what is mandated by law.
