In April, 9,679 new jobs were created in Croatia, marking the second consecutive month of employment growth, primarily due to seasonal hiring in the tourism sector.
The Croatian Bureau of Statistics announced today that in April, the total number of employed persons increased by 0.7 percent compared to the previous month, reaching 1.349 million.
This is the second consecutive month of employment growth, considering that approximately 3,300 new jobs were created in March.
The growth exceeded expectations, as a survey conducted by Hina indicated that four macroeconomists estimated an average increase of 6,250 employed persons.
In legal entities, the number of employed persons increased by 0.5 percent to 1.12 million, while in crafts and freelance professions, it rose by 2.4 percent to 203,000.
In the sector of agricultural insurance, the number of employed persons decreased by 1.2 percent to 26,000.
As the most significant reason for the increase in employment, macroeconomists in the survey cited seasonal hiring, mainly in activities related to tourism.
The contribution of seasonal effects to employment growth is indicated by the fact that in April, the number of employed persons in the accommodation and food service sector increased by 10.3 percent.
The number of employed persons in the real estate sector also rose significantly by 1.7 percent.
On the other hand, the largest decline, by 3.5 percent, was recorded in the sector of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning supply.
In other sectors, no decline or increase in the number of employed persons exceeding 1 percent was recorded.
Recently, the Croatian Employment Service announced that in April, the number of unemployed persons decreased by 3.5 percent, or 12,960 persons, to 355,598.
According to DZS data, the unemployment rate slid from 21.6 to 20.9 percent.
