German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday stumbled in her speech at a joint press conference with French President Francois Hollande, mistaking him for his predecessor Francois Mitterrand, which the French president accompanied with a smile.
– On the issues we are collaborating on, Francois Mitterrand spoke: it is about promoting competitiveness, employment, and growth. Youth unemployment, of course, is extremely important in our project – said the German Chancellor before she noticed the mistake.
– Francois Hollande, not Francois Mitterrand! Francois Hollande! – she corrected herself while laughing, as a broad smile appeared on the face of the French president.
