Linić: Those who have erred cannot remain in their jobs

Finance Minister Slavko Linić dismissed nine high-ranking officials of the Tax Administration on Tuesday due to abuse of power.

Let us recall that among those dismissed were the Deputy Director of the Tax Administration Zlatko Fabijančić, the Assistant Director for Strategy and Development Anđa Redžić, and the Assistant Director for General, Legal, and Accounting Affairs Željko Glavaš.

Jutarnji list learns that the dismissed team systematically favored various individuals, notified about the conduct of inspections and controls, concealed and delayed the discovery of tax criminal offenses. They allegedly also dealt in information, but no information leaked that was related to current court proceedings.

The same source also reveals that the nine heads of the Tax Administration are under investigation by USKOK.

The Finance Minister himself commented on the dismissals today in Rijeka.

-I cannot speak about the case itself. My job was to remove people from responsible positions when I learned of it; what happens next will depend on the investigative process. Everyone is replaceable, including those in leadership positions. There are enough qualified people who will be more responsible, and the system will not feel it. Fiscalization needs to be perfected; a new VAT will be introduced on July 1 that brings enormous changes. None of us has the right to delay or fatigue; new people will take on those responsibilities, and those who have erred cannot remain in their jobs, Linić commented on Wednesday.
