How to Cope with Stress at Work?

Numerous studies show that today twice as many people consider their job to be ‘extremely stressful’ compared to the jobs they held a decade ago. Most of them are also considering leaving the job that causes them too much stress, and many do so.

Many people complain that their job is too stressful and that this stress causes them health problems, including high blood pressure, sleep disorders, back pain, etc. Stress can play a significant role in cardiovascular diseases and even heart attacks. Stress can raise blood pressure, increase cholesterol levels, trigger heart arrhythmias, and more, reports the portal Moj Posao.

If you feel that you are exposed to stress at work, keep a few things in mind:
1) Get enough sleep – studies show that lack of sleep contributes to stress. You will feel better at work if you are not tired and exhausted.

2) Have breakfast – even if it means you have to get up half an hour earlier, it is important to start the day with a rich and healthy meal.

3) Exercise – the next time you feel stressed, try to relax through exercise. For example, go for a short walk, do a quick stretching exercise for your arms and legs, jog in place, or spend a few minutes in fresh air – you will feel much better.

4) Harness positive thoughts – the most important thing is how you feel and approach things. Only you can control your behavior. Try, as much as possible, to think positively to keep stress away from your daily life.

5) Don’t sweat the small stuff – learn the difference between what is truly important in your life and many problems will simply disappear.

6) Relax – take a deep breath and release tension. Read books, watch comedies, or go for a light walk. Soon you will see that your stress-related problems are a thing of the past.

7) Ignore stressful situations – don’t get tangled up in other people’s problems and stressful situations. You have enough of your own stress.

8) Learn to manage your time – many people are stressed because they cannot complete all their work on time. Look at your schedule and prioritize.

9) Learn to deal with conflicting situations – stay cool and try to remain calm. Stress occurs when tension rises.

10) Eat healthily – stop eating fast and unhealthy food and your body will cope with stress more easily. Instead of chips, choose fruit.

11) Learn to express your feelings – talking to a friend or close colleague about what you feel is a good way to combat stress. Don’t keep your problems locked up inside.
