Appearing on the well-known BBC program Hardtalk, Prime Minister Zoran Milanović defended HDZ in response to a journalist’s question, reports Večernji list.
The host of the show, Stephen Sackur, insisted in his question that Croatia is facing difficulties with extreme nationalism, as reported by Večernji.
– Not extreme, these are not direct calls to hatred. I have many objections to the political actions and provocations of the main opposition party, which has never had a problem calling for some base passions, but they are not extreme nationalists. We see much worse in our surroundings – Milanović responded to the question.
In response to the host’s example from a recent football match with Serbia in Zagreb, where chants of ‘kill a Serb’ were occasionally heard from the stands, Milanović stated that the match should have been stopped and that he does not tolerate such behavior.
In addition to this, Milanović also discussed with Sackur the upcoming entry into the European Union and the economic situation in Croatia.
