Independent candidate for the mayor of Zagreb, Vladimir Ferdelji, stated tonight that the first results of the elections show him that ‘this nation lives exceptionally, because a nation that lives well chooses the same government, while a nation that lives poorly chooses change.’
– In Zagreb, it is evident that the majority of people live very well – Ferdelji stated tonight at the HSLS premises where he, together with the coalition HSLS-HSS-Green List-Democratic Pensioners’ Party, is waiting for the election results.
Ferdelji said that the results will surely show that Milan Bandić’s list and his list have performed convincingly well. He added that the results indicate that Bandić is ‘somewhat of a HDZ candidate.’
When asked by journalists whom he would support in the second round, Ferdelji replied that he does not know yet. – I still do not think that the results are final because it is a relatively small sample. First, we will think carefully and then decide what to do – said Ferdelji.
Ferdelji emphasized that he is not disappointed with the election results because he has been in politics for a year and has managed to establish himself with the people and become a serious candidate for those who have dedicated their entire lives to this.
– Unfortunately, our democracy is still in its infancy, primarily evidenced by the fact that voter turnout is below 50 percent everywhere. It is evident that the majority of citizens still do not take elections seriously, even though they determine their future in the elections – Ferdelji asserted. He added that he deeply believes that over time we will achieve a turnout that guarantees the majority will of the people and in which party apparatuses will constitute a smaller relative part than they do today.
