At the shipyard 3. Maj, which is expected to become part of Pula’s ‘Uljanik’, negotiations regarding the amendment of the Collective Agreement, which expires at the end of the year, will soon begin. Privatization and restructuring will bring layoffs, so the amount of severance pay is crucial.
The Collective Agreement at 3. Maj stipulates an amount of 6,400 kuna for each year of uninterrupted work experience. On the other hand, at Uljanik, this amount has been limited to one-third of their average salary, which is then multiplied by the coefficient of years of service for each individual employee.
The management of 3. Maj wishes to adjust the contract to that of Uljanik. However, the union representatives are sending a clear message: we will not allow our rights to be diminished! Workers insist that additional benefits related to salaries and days off be negotiated with the buyer. They also believe that shares of 3. Maj, if sold, should be offered to workers under the conditions under which they were purchased by the shipbuilders of Uljanik.
The second part of the salary for April has been deposited into the accounts of the workers at 3. Maj. This brings a good feeling to the 1,800 workers, most of whom are involved in equipping the last two ships at the yard. The order book is empty, there are no contracts, and work needs to be secured for the coming years.
