The shipbuilding industry Split has contracted with its own shipping company Brodosplit-Plovidba the construction of five sailing ships for cruise travel and one luxury passenger yacht, it was announced by the DIV group, the owner of Brodosplit.
DIV does not disclose the value of the contract, explaining that it is currently a business secret.
The sailing ships with three masts will be 60 meters long and 10 meters wide, with a height to the main deck of 5.35 m and will be able to reach a speed of 11 knots. The ships will have the class of passenger ships, which will allow them to sail in all seas of the world. The delivery of the first is scheduled for 2015.
In addition to the construction of five sailing ships, a contract has been signed for the construction of a luxury passenger yacht, also for its own company, Brodosplit-Plovidba based in Split.
The 60-meter yacht will be able to accommodate 12 passengers in six cabins on four decks, with 10 crew members taking care of them. This is the largest such yacht built in Croatia, and delivery is scheduled for 2014. Given the completed project and work experience, the construction of the yacht is very profitable, they say at DIV.
The construction of six ships is the foundation for the renewal of the Brodosplit shipping fleet and represents a step forward for Brodosplit into the high-class passenger ship market, it is stated in the announcement.
According to the plan, the sailing ships and yacht will sail during the tourist season in the Mediterranean seas, and off-season in the Caribbean islands and other tourist destinations.
DIV announces that after aligning technical specifications, they will begin contracting jobs, thereby fulfilling their obligations in restructuring and ensuring employment for a large part of capacity in the coming years.
