The company Končar-Generators and Motors (GIM) in Oslo has signed a contract for the refurbishment and power increase of two turbine units for the Klosterfoss Hydroelectric Power Plant (HE) in Norway, with the contract valued at 13.4 million euros, Končar reported today.
After refurbishment, the units will have a total installed power of 15.6 MVA (megavolt-amperes).
The contract with the Norwegian electricity producer, Akershus Energi, is valued at 13.4 million euros, won in competition with the largest global generator manufacturers, and is a continuation of Končar’s successful exports to Scandinavian countries, the statement said.
Specifically, Končar-GIM has supplied equipment for 11 small hydropower plants for the Norwegian market, and production of equipment for another four small hydropower plants is underway (as part of a multi-year contract with the Norwegian company Smakraft).
In addition, a 35 MVA generator has been delivered for HE Dale, and the rehabilitation project of the last of four generators, with a capacity of 37 MVA, for the Binga hydropower plant in the Philippines, owned by the Norwegian SN Power and the local group Aboitiz, is nearing completion.
The CEO of Končar-Generators and Motors, Roman Nota, emphasizes that Končar, in addition to Norway, is also achieving success in other Scandinavian countries, for which it has contracted generators for a total of 45 larger and smaller hydropower plants, and is currently in various stages of realization of as many as eight contracts for hydropower plants in Finland.
