Citizens Increasingly Buy Brands and Follow Discounts

GfK conducted a study titled ShoppingMonitor that shows the purchasing habits of consumer goods among Croatian citizens.

The results indicate that an average of 1,950 kuna is spent monthly on consumer goods, the highest in Dalmatia – 2,640 kuna, and the lowest in Slavonia – 1,320 kuna.

Almost all (91 percent) go for smaller purchases weekly, while 24 percent make larger purchases on a weekly basis. Nearly three-quarters (72 percent) of large purchases are paid in cash, while 28 percent use some form of card, either debit or credit.

The price level is becoming an increasingly important factor for us as a nation – one in four citizens chooses a store based on prices, and there is a significant increase in the number of those who go searching for discounts on a weekly basis.

In the purchase of consumer goods, there is still no significant interest in innovations or something new, as only 7 percent are among the first to buy a new product that has just hit the market, while 28 percent of respondents show interest in new products on the shelves.
