The three-month pilot project of the City of Zagreb, which includes a public bicycle system, started today. The city’s goal is to improve bicycle traffic in the metropolis, and the entire project was conceived by Krešimir Dvorski and Ante Gustin.
– We proposed to the City Administration to create a pilot project based on which it would be seen after a few months whether such a system functions successfully in Zagreb. If it works successfully, then the most favorable supplier would be sought through a public tender – said Dvorski.
Bicycle stations were set up over the weekend at six locations in the city center: at the Main Train Station, near the Technical Museum, NSK, at Kvatrić, in Petrinjska and Gundulićeva Street.
Before the first rental, users will need to activate their nextbike account. This can be done via the website nextbike.hr, at hotel receptions, hostels, and the tourist information center. After activation, the user will receive a code to unlock the lock and can use the bicycle. The service ends upon arrival at the station, locking the bicycle, and checking out at the terminal.
Account activation costs 79 kuna, and this amount is used for bicycle rides. The first hour of the day is free, and each additional hour of riding costs eight kuna. If the user does not return the bicycle after 24 hours, they will be charged a fee of 750 kuna. The idea has also been supported by the association Moj bicikl.
