New $51 Million IMF Aid for Bosnia and Herzegovina

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) approved $51 million in aid for Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday, after the global financial organization determined that BiH is keeping its finances under control.

One of the main conditions for receiving a new tranche of around 80 million convertible marks was the adoption of a law on early favorable retirement for veterans in the Federation of BiH.

Without additional IMF assistance, BiH would face a larger deficit and borrowing costs.

“A healthy policy in the financial sector mitigates risks,” said IMF Deputy Director Nemat Shafik.

The IMF and the World Bank announced that they expect a growth of 0.5 percent in BiH this year.
