Pusić: The Public Should Be Informed Immediately About the Pelješac Bridge

The First Deputy Prime Minister and leader of HNS, Vesna Pusić, stated in Zadar that she does not share the opinion of Prime Minister Zoran Milanović that she should have waited with her statement regarding the Pelješac Bridge, emphasizing that the public should have been informed about it immediately.

Journalists asked Vesna Pusić in Zadar, where she presented HNS candidates for the upcoming local elections, how she comments on the Prime Minister’s statement that she should have waited with her statement about the construction of the bridge, to which she replied that this is the Prime Minister’s opinion.

– My opinion is that the public should have been informed about this immediately. It is not a matter of us having finished the job; the matter is that when we received a positive signal, that is when we need to start working very hard to realize this project. However, the signal is positive, and under these conditions, I think that every positive sign is welcome – she stated.

She added that one should not succumb to the common occurrence of saying that one cannot do anything or that at the first sign one says ‘everything is resolved, the matter is finished’.

– We need to work; we need to work very hard on this project, but the first signal is positive for us and for the citizens of Croatia and the entire region. However, there is much to be done before the project is realized, and we need to start working immediately – Pusić emphasized.

Prime Minister Milanović stated yesterday in Rijeka that the First Deputy Prime Minister of his Government, speaking about the European Commission’s assessment that the bridge is the best way to connect southern Croatia, said something that is not a secret, but the question is whether she should have said it yesterday or waited another week.

Namely, Pusić said yesterday before the start of the Government session that the European Commission assessed that the bridge is the best way to connect the mainland and Pelješac. Journalists also asked her last night in Zadar how she interprets the European Commission’s assessment regarding the stagnation of Croatia’s GDP in the following year, to which she replied that this is a concerning forecast and that it is up to the Government to do everything possible to ensure that this forecast does not come true but rather that growth is realized.

– We have opportunities, we have possibilities, we need to utilize them, and we need to start immediately – Vesna Pusić emphasized.
