Protest of Croatian Railway Workers

Today, a public protest will be held by members of the Union of Croatian Railway Workers and employees of the company Wagon Maintenance d.o.o.

In addition to the non-payment of salaries for March, the union states that the reason for holding the public protest is the continued decline of HŽ Cargo d.o.o., which threatens the collapse of the entire railway system due to its insolvency in the short term.

Nine days ago, an unannounced union action by the Croatian Locomotive Drivers Union took place, resulting in the cancellation of about 20 trains in the regional unit of HŽ Passenger Transport Varaždin. Although some passenger and freight trains did not depart, the Croatian Locomotive Drivers Union stated that this is not a strike. It is allegedly due to a malfunction in the sanders, which are part of the braking system of locomotives, endangering the lives of passengers and railway staff.

In the wagon and train maintenance, however, they claimed that everything is fine with the systems. In a statement we received from HŽ Passenger Transport, it is stated that this is an illegal action by the Locomotive Drivers Union and that most of the mentioned deficiencies are not related to the safety of railway vehicles and traffic. Because of all this, they emphasize that the Management can assess the actions of the Croatian Locomotive Drivers Union as sabotage.
