20 New Projects in the Startup Incubator

The Startup Incubator for students of the University of Rijeka and the Polytechnic, as well as young people up to 29 years old, which will encourage the development of youth entrepreneurship and the acquisition of their first work experiences, was opened today by Rijeka Mayor Vojko Obersnel.

After a public call for applications to enter the Startup Incubator, 20 projects from 34 young people gathered in 16 teams were approved. They will be assisted in realizing their ideas by mentors from educational and development institutions, scientific-research centers, economic entities, and associations.

The Startup Incubator is the third entrepreneurial incubator in Rijeka, but its users do not have to be economic entities, as the uniqueness of this incubator is that it supports individuals in designing business models.

It aims to create a supportive environment for self-employment of young people by realizing their business ideas, increasing competencies, and developing a culture of entrepreneurship among youth. The Startup Incubator will gather young people who have knowledge and ideas in the fields of information technology, computer applications, industrial design, as well as students from various fields who have a business idea and wish to realize it through their own business.

The public call for entry into the startup has gathered working teams, while the public call for business mentors is open until March 1. So far, 450,000 kuna has been invested from the Rijeka budget for construction work and equipping the 268 square meter space at the incubator facility on Ružićeva Street. The City Administration Department for Entrepreneurship is the program holder of the project, and the partner is the Regional Development Agency Porin.
