The Ministry of Finance employs 139 fewer people than last year

The number of employees in the Ministry of Finance decreased by 139 from the beginning of January 2012 to January 1 of this year, resulting in a total of 7,770 employees in the core part of the Ministry, the Tax Administration, and the Customs Administration at the beginning of 2013.

The Ministry of Finance published data on the movement of the number of employees today on its website ‘in response to inaccurate reports that have appeared in the media regarding the number of employees in that ministry.’

It is stated that the Ministry of Finance (Core part, Tax Administration, Customs Administration, and Financial Police) had a total of 7,909 employees on January 1, 2012, while on January 1, 2013, that number was 7,770, which means that the number of employees decreased by 139 during that period.

The Ministry reminds that at the beginning of March 2012, the Law on the Termination of the Law on the Financial Police came into force, which abolished the Financial Police as a separate administrative organization within the Ministry of Finance. In accordance with this Law, the Ministry continues to perform the tasks of the Financial Police and has taken over 140 employees from the Financial Police, with the Customs Administration taking 27 employees, the Tax Administration taking 47 employees, and the core part of the Ministry of Finance taking 66 employees.

They note that regular performance of tasks, for positions where it was possible, was ensured by reallocating tasks among existing officials and transfers in accordance with the Law on Civil Servants.

For positions where this was not possible, based on a public competition for admission to civil service, 28 officials were hired (of which 13 officials in the Tax Administration, one in the Customs Administration, and 14 officials in the Ministry of Finance – core part).

As of January 1 of this year, the core part of the Ministry of Finance has 447 employees, the Tax Administration has 4,298, and the Customs Administration has 3,025 employees.
