Holcim Croatia reported an operating loss of 18.8 million kuna in the past year, the company announced.
Negative trends in the construction sector over the past four years and issues with receivables due to the overall poor liquidity situation in the country have significantly impacted Holcim’s operations in Croatia, which recorded an operating loss of approximately 18.8 million kuna, said Mario Grassl, CEO of Holcim Croatia.
He also noted that construction activity in Croatia is down by 13 percent compared to the previous year and that Holcim expects significant challenges and efforts to maintain market positions in 2013. Collecting receivables will remain one of the top priorities this year. He added that they are working on finding new customers and monitoring the development of new construction projects.
In 2012, Holcim managed to increase its market share in the cement segment by about 0.5 percent compared to 2011, even though total cement consumption in Croatia fell by 14 percent during that period, the company reported.
In the concrete segment, sales volumes were 6 percent higher than the previous year, while in the aggregates segment, a positive financial result, or profit, was achieved.
Holcim Croatia is part of the Holcim Group, one of the world’s leading suppliers of cement and aggregates, ready-mix concrete, asphalt, and services in the construction sector.
Holcim has one cement plant, two cement terminals, seven concrete plants, and three aggregate quarries in Croatia.
