Scientists at the CERN research center in Switzerland have discovered that the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), known for its mission to find the Higgs boson, has been shut down for renovations.
The Large Hadron Collider operates at an energy of 8 trillion electron-volts (8 TeV), however, after repairs, it is expected to reach up to 14 TeV. Additionally, all four detectors and the ventilation system in the tunnel housing the main accelerator ring will be repaired. The repairs are expected to be completed in 2014.
