The Vjesnik Printing House today refuted the claims of the 21st Century publisher that the daily newspaper is temporarily shutting down due to printing cost increases.
It asserts that there has been no drastic increase in printing costs and that invoices were issued to the publisher in accordance with the signed contract from the end of last year.
The Vjesnik Printing House fulfilled its printing service for the 21st Century in a quality manner, on time, and according to the orders issued by the newspaper publisher ‘Miran dan’, with the price calculated according to standards and the signed contract, the printing house reported.
It explains that the publisher did not secure paper for printing, which was its obligation, nor did it provide funds to settle overdue printing obligations, which today amount to 1.7 million kuna, while the total debt is around 2.5 million kuna.
The printing price was agreed upon based on 100,000 copies per day, but unfortunately, the market decided that the newspapers would be printed in a circulation of around 20,000 copies, which significantly increases the cost of production, adds the Vjesnik Printing House.
The 21st Century publisher previously announced that it is temporarily halting the printing of newspapers due to ‘the inexplicable behavior of the printing house, which increased the agreed printing price without explanation and valid reasons by more than three times.’
The first issue of the 21st Century was printed on November 22 of last year.
