After unsuccessful mediation, members of the EKN Union of Croatia at Solar Cells Ltd. today went on strike due to unpaid wages.
According to a statement from the EKN Union of Croatia, this is already the 27th time that union members and workers at Solar Cells are demanding their wages by threatening to strike.
– Until now, the employer has, however, ultimately paid the wages. However, it is evident that the employer, Denis Perić, harasses them every month, pressures them, and creates intentional pressure and stress among the workers, waiting until the last moment to pay the earned wages. Throughout 2012, he paid workers under the table, paying 3,000 kuna, with the promise that he would return the difference to the full wage!? – states the statement signed by Ivan Tomac, president of the EKN Union of Croatia.
As they say in the Union, the employer has not paid contributions for pension and health insurance to the workers for two years, and recently submitted a request for pre-bankruptcy settlement.
– Despite years of complaints from the EKN Union to the institutions, we have not been able to put an end to the constant violation of the law due to obvious influence on the inspection. The repeated non-payment of wages to workers shows that bankruptcy of Solar Cells is a more likely option – says Tomac.
