Yesterday, the first four diesel locomotives of the GT26 series were dispatched to Rijeka, marking the beginning of the delivery of 20 new locomotives for the Moroccan State Railways (ONCF) by NREC and Gredelj, which will be shipped to Morocco via the port of Rijeka.
The GT26CW series locomotives are intended for transporting heavy freight trains on non-electrified tracks in Morocco.
By refurbishing and modernizing these locomotives, their operational lifespan will be extended by another 25 years. This project is a continuation of the long-standing cooperation with the American company National Railway Equipment Company (NREC), which has been collaborating with TŽV Gredelj since 2004, and for which TŽV Gredelj has already delivered a significant number of refurbished and modernized locomotives operating worldwide.
The previous cooperation between NREC and Gredelj has resulted in the delivery of 34 locomotives to foreign markets, making the production of locomotives for NREC an important part of TŽV Gredelj’s export business, and the collaboration has not been shaken even after Gredelj’s bankruptcy declaration.
The first twenty locomotives are to be delivered by mid-July, while the delivery of an additional ten locomotives is planned to be completed by the end of October this year.
– In addition to the Moroccan market, NREC and Gredelj are at various stages of negotiating contracts for the delivery of new and modernized locomotives, and it is expected that additional deliveries will be signed in the first half of this year – the statement reads, adding that the increase in this type of production in Croatia in the coming months could also employ other Croatian factories such as Đuro Đaković and Brodosplit-BSO.
