HT Begins Collaboration with Fon

Hrvatski Telekom has commenced a business collaboration with Fon, the leading global WiFi community, and from today, it enables all its private users to access over seven million free hotspots worldwide.

By providing this unique service, HT enriches its offering in the fixed network segment in which users can now enjoy quality wherever they are.

With currently over 1000 HotSpot WiFi locations offered throughout Croatia, HT continues to build the largest free wireless network in the country through this collaboration.

Advanced Fon technology allows HT users to share a small part of their home WiFi network in a simple and secure manner, and in return, they have free access to WiFi signals from over seven million other community members.

The user’s home WiFi signal is shared via the Fon device in such a way that part of it is unlocked, while the remaining network remains encrypted and fully protected. The range of the unlocked signal is about 30 meters and is available exclusively to members of the Fon community who access it via the Fon application on their smartphones, tablets, or laptops. The Fon WiFi signal is also available today in all T-Centers.

“By partnering with Fon, we are opening a new dimension of fixed network usage. This is a step in the spirit of the times that exclusively allows our users to be part of a high-tech global community and contribute to it so that ultimately all members benefit,” stated Nataša Rapaić, a member of the Management Board of HT and Chief Operating Officer for private users, regarding the collaboration with Fon.

In 2012, the Fon network grew by 53 percent. Quarterly, this amounted to about one million hotspot locations or a new location every ten seconds.

With the ADSL service of Hrvatski Telekom and a mobile device and application, all a user needs to use this service is a Fon device. Connecting to the Internet via Fon WiFi, whether domestically or abroad, is free for all HT users who own a Fon device. By purchasing a Fon device, HT users automatically activate the HotSpot Fon service and become part of the global Fon community.
