Croatian citizens were indebted to the state for 13.92 billion kuna on the last day of 2012. However, the state will extend a helping hand to them as it has already done for entrepreneurs, allowing them to restructure their debt.
The Director of the Tax Administration, Nada Čavlović Smiljanec, announced in tomorrow’s interview for 21st Century the introduction of a new law under which individuals will have the opportunity to repay their debts in installments this spring. Most importantly, the state will write off the interest, which accounts for almost 50 percent of the total debt of citizens, or about seven billion kuna.
“With the law on the collection of tax debts of individuals that we will soon propose to the Government, individuals – who do not engage in craft activities or have ceased to engage in craft activities – and have tax debts will be able to restructure their obligations, in such a way that their tax debt based on interest will be written off while simultaneously restructuring the principal debt, depending on the amount of tax debt from 36 to 60 months,” announced Čavlović Smiljanec.
