The Commercial Court in Varaždin has opened bankruptcy proceedings against Grijanje Varaždin, a company engaged in the production, distribution, and supply of thermal energy for nearly 1,900 households in the city area.
The company’s debts currently amount to 8.8 million kuna. The largest part of the debt relates to our founder, Termoplin, to whom we owe 8.7 million kuna for gas supply. We also owe HEP, which has recently threatened to disconnect electricity, and the Environmental Protection Fund, which has already sent a notice that it will block the account, said Branko Šanjek, director of Grijanje Varaždin, to Hina.
The request to initiate bankruptcy proceedings was submitted by the company’s management due to, as Šanjek explains, accumulated debts and difficult business operations.
Šanjek states that the company was initially in an unfavorable position, as it paid more for gas than it later charged for thermal energy from households.
We have requested an increase in heating prices several times. The city increased the price in the middle of the year, but that increase was not enough to reduce the accumulation of losses. The Croatian Energy Regulatory Agency could solve the problem by increasing the heating price, but I do not know if that will happen, emphasized Šanjek.
When asked whether the supply of thermal energy to 1,900 Varaždin households is in question, Šanjek did not want to answer, emphasizing that Grijanje Varaždin is the only company in Varaždin that can perform that job.
