The Croatian Post and Electronic Communications Agency (HAKOM) is expected to receive a new Council in February, for which the government announced a competition at the end of last year for a five-member composition, with 28 candidates applying. The members of the Council will be proposed to the government by a special commission of the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, as learned from that ministry and HAKOM.
The decision or proposal for the members of the HAKOM Council will be made by the mentioned commission after testing the candidates next week, after which the government will propose it to the Parliament, which appoints those members, including one as the president of the Council and one as his deputy, the Ministry notes.
Members of the HAKOM Council, as the national regulatory body for performing regulatory and other tasks in the field of electronic communications and postal services, are elected based on the Electronic Communications Act.
Among other things, the competition required candidates to have a degree in the field of electronic communications, postal traffic, law, or economics, at least five years of work experience in that field, and active knowledge of at least one foreign language.
Council members cannot be state, party, or officials in the bodies of local and regional self-government units or unions, nor members of management boards, supervisory boards, or administrative councils, nor owners, shareholders, or holders of shares in legal entities to which the provisions of the Electronic Communications Act and the Postal Services Act apply.
The Ministry also reminds that since the beginning of this year, HAKOM has a new director, Vesna Gašpar, who took over from the previous director, Dražen Lučić, and her term lasts until the end of 2016.
