In Croatia, last year, there was a 3.3 percent increase in tourists staying in commercial accommodation compared to the previous year, and the number of overnight stays increased by 4 percent, according to the first results published today by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics.
The increase in tourist traffic was achieved thanks to a higher arrival of foreign guests, while domestic tourists recorded declines.
In Croatia, in 2012, there were 4.5 percent more arrivals of foreign tourists than in the previous year, accounting for 87.6 percent of all arrivals.
Foreign tourists had an even larger share in total overnight stays in Croatia, at nearly 92 percent, and their overnight stays were 5.1 percent higher than in 2011.
On the other hand, there were 4.1 percent fewer domestic tourists last year compared to the previous year, and the number of their overnight stays fell by 6.8 percent. Thus, the share of overnight stays by domestic tourists in total overnight stays decreased to 8.3 percent (down from 9.3 percent in 2011).
In the last month of last year, December, there were slightly fewer tourists in Croatia than in the same month of 2011, with a decrease of 1.9 percent, and a slight decline in overnight stays of 0.4 percent was recorded, which was a result of reduced traffic from domestic tourists.
There were also more foreign tourists in December, with an increase of 3.8 percent, and they achieved 5 percent more overnight stays than in December 2011.
Conversely, there were 8.3 percent fewer domestic tourists in December, and their overnight stays decreased by 7.1 percent compared to the same month the previous year.
