Divers from the Italian Coast Guard searching for the missing American fighter jet F 16 and its pilot have focused their search on waters where a fishing boat spotted wreckage believed to belong to the aircraft, the Coast Guard announced on Tuesday.
Parts of the fuselage were found on the night from Monday to Tuesday on the surface of the northern Adriatic, said Saverio Ferrara, without specifying the location where they were found.
The U.S. Air Force stated that they believe the found debris belongs to the missing aircraft, which has been searched for since Monday evening by the Brodospas vessel “Brodospas moon”.
The American fighter jet from the base in Aviano was on a training exercise along with three other aircraft and disappeared from radar shortly after the pilot reported to air traffic control around 8 PM that he was having problems.
