Montenegrin Prime Minister Milo Đukanović stated to reporters on Tuesday that Montenegro has not abandoned the construction of the highway from Bar to the border with Serbia and that the start of the project’s realization is expected in the middle of this year.
– We have not abandoned the project by any means and we continue to keep it as the highest investment priority of Montenegro – Đukanović noted, adding that in recent days ‘intensive discussions are taking place with two potential partners’.
– One is a Chinese partner, the telecommunications and infrastructure company CCCC International (China Communications Construction Company International) and as a financier, the Chinese Exim Bank, while the other potential partner is the Bechtel-Enka consortium – Đukanović said to Radio Montenegro.
According to him, whichever offer is chosen, the realization of the project could begin in the middle of the year, and the first phase from Podgorica to Mateševo could be completed in no longer than four years.
The project for the construction of the highway from Bar to the border with Serbia has so far been unsuccessfully attempted to be initiated by the Croatian consortium led by Konstruktor, the Greek-Israeli consortium Aktor-Shikun binui, as well as some Chinese companies.
