According to a report published by Global Web Index, Google+ is now in second place among social networks by number of users.
Global Web Index tracks 31 global markets, representing about 90 percent of the total number of internet users. Their results show that as many as 51 percent of internet users worldwide also use Facebook. Google+ is now in second place with 25 percent of users, while Twitter is in third place with 21 percent of users.
When these figures are converted into numbers, it means that Google+ has 343 million active users, while Twitter has just under 300 million. When considering markets that Global Web Index did not have access to, Facebook has just over one billion users.
Facebook recorded a user growth of 33 percent, Google+ 27 percent, and Twitter even 40 percent.
Due to the rise in popularity of global social networks, some local social networks that were previously very popular, such as the South Korean Me2Day or the German StudioViz, are experiencing increasing losses of active users.
The growth in the number of active users of global social networks can also be attributed to excellent mobile applications for Android and iOS operating systems.
