In yesterday’s early elections for the mayor of Drniš, the HDZ candidate Josip Begonja emerged victorious. Thus, HDZ returns to executive power in Drniš after eight years.
According to preliminary data from the City Electoral Commission, 1,918 voters or 65 percent voted for HDZ and Begonja, while 1,049 or 35 percent voted for the HNS candidate Vlatka Duilo.
Josip Begonja is the president of the City Council, where HDZ, along with coalition partners, holds a majority, and he is also the president of the City Organization of HDZ. His deputy will be Nikola Lovrić, the former head of HDZ Drniš.
At the end of November last year, the Government of the Republic of Croatia announced the elections after the Ministry of Administration made a decision to conduct elections following the death of Mayor Ante Dželalija, who passed away on October 6, 2012.
After the announcement of the results, Josip Begonja stated that this is a signpost ahead of the regular elections in May. HDZ has had its ups and downs, but this party always knows how to find a way when times are tough. Today’s victory is a signpost not only for the city of Drniš but also for all areas in Šibenik-Knin County where HDZ is not in power. These were the pre-elections for what awaits us in May; our program presented to voters was not for the two months this mandate will last, but for the next four years, Begonja said in the Radio Drniš program.
