A Frenchman won the jackpot of 44,297,359 euros in the European lottery Euro Millions on Friday night, according to the draw results published on the La Francaise des Jeux (FDJ) website.
A spokesperson for FDJ told France Presse that the name of the department where the ticket was purchased will be announced on Monday. This jackpot in Euro Millions, the fourth to go to France since the beginning of the year, is the twelfth largest prize in that game in France.
Since its inception in 2004, the Euro Millions lottery, which includes France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland, Portugal, Ireland, and Austria, has had more than 300 winners, including 77 from France, 62 from Spain, and 60 from the United Kingdom.
The odds of a player hitting the winning combination of numbers and winning the jackpot are 1 in 116,531,800. The largest amount ever won in Euro Millions (190,000,000 euros) was won by a British player on August 10, 2012.
