EC: Urgently find a solution for Ljubljanska banka

The European Commission has called on Slovenia and Croatia to urgently find a mutually acceptable solution to the issue of Ljubljanska banka so that the ratification of the Croatian accession agreement can be completed on time.

It is indeed necessary as soon as possible for both sides, I repeat both sides, to urgently find a mutually acceptable solution to the issue of Ljubljanska banka, said Peter Stano, spokesperson for the Commissioner for Enlargement Štefan Füle, in response to a journalist’s question about whether the European Commission maintains its position that Ljubljanska banka is a purely bilateral issue that should not have any impact on the ratification process.

Stano added that at this moment, any move, statement, or behavior that does not lead to a mutually acceptable solution for the issue of Ljubljanska banka is not helpful. The Commission added that this is their response to the statements of Croatian financial expert Zdravko Rogić, Croatia’s negotiator on the issue of Ljubljanska banka, in today’s Croatian press.

Regarding the ratification, I can only say that we hope and remain optimistic that this process will be completed on time so that Croatia can enter as planned, on July 1 of this year, said Stano.
