The CEO of Zagrebački holding, Ivo Čović, stated today that all winter service teams in Zagreb are on the ground and are doing everything possible to clear the roads, but if the snow continues to fall at the same intensity, he mentioned the possibility of declaring a natural disaster.
– For now, it seems like we are doing a Sisyphean task, and we will continue to do so – said Čović in a statement to reporters at Ban Jelačić Square, after he toured the city with the winter service and directors of Holding’s subsidiaries: ZET, Zagrebačke ceste, Čistoća, Zagrebparking, and others, observing all the critical points where traffic is moving slowly and with difficulty. He reminded that they prepared well for the precipitation last night and that they performed their duties exceptionally well as the streets were cleared.
– Now, upon inspection, we see quite a few problems, traffic is moving with difficulty, and the main reason is that the snow is falling continuously – said Čović. He noted that all 210 winter service teams are on the ground.
– We have seen that Čistoća trucks are collecting garbage, that there are a certain number of delays on lines to the periphery and in hilly areas, but other buses are operating, and there are delays in tram traffic – noted Čović.
He assessed that, apparently, today’s snow is larger and deeper than the one from less than a month ago, adding that this morning there was officially 37 centimeters of snow, and more than 25 cm of new snow fell in the morning. Čović announced that there will be another meeting of the winter service headquarters in the afternoon, and it is possible that a declaration of a natural disaster will occur if the precipitation does not stop. According to information from the Croatian State Hydrometeorological Institute (DHMZ), it is expected that such conditions will continue in the coming days.
